Cross this off your list for this fall: “Drag relatives up Huffer Hill Trail near the Alpine Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park.” The trail, officially called Alpine Ridge, is on the crest of Trail Ridge Road, and it has always been good for a laugh with visiting lowlanders. It’s short, but climbs over 200 feet (starting at 11,798 feet), and has steep grades. Reconstruction is planned for next summer, but crews dismantled it this fall.
Other great trails in RMNP to hike in the fall:
- Fern Lake (starts just beyond Moraine Park, where I captured the photo of the rainbow)
- Boulder Brook
- Bierstadt
- Mills Lake
Pick up a trail map at the park entrance.
