You probably recognize SANYO best for its LCD and plasma TVs, cameras and appliances. But the company is being honored this week for something completely different – a bike.
The SANYO eneloop hybrid bike received a Best of Innovations award in the eco-design and sustainable technology category at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The eneloop is a next-generation bicycle that features loop charging, which recharges the battery while you ride, and two-wheel drive with the front wheel motor-driven and the rear wheel dependent on pedaling force. A Power-up mode increases the output ratio of the power assistance motor, making uphill rides less taxing. You can buy this bike on the SANYO web site for $2,499.
Another cool invention honored with an Innovations award:
A GPS cradle for the iPod and iPod Touch, which enables GPS capability and provides a turn-by-turn navigation system with free nav software. It’s not available yet (Update: It’s now available).
