Before Avid's ingenious BB7, the Road S' great granddaddy, mechanical disc brakes were inexpensive options with value as the only defining feature. Avid's engineers transformed that stigma by designing a system with ball bearings to produce smooth leverage and excellent modulation on par with hydraulic options. Now, a refined version of that original, the two piece Road S caliper, weighs comfortably under 200 grams with stainless steel hardware and a leverage ratio specific to road levers. It continues to use the simple Tri Align caliper adjustment that is fast and easy. Simply loosen the mounting bolts, tighten the caliper to the rotor and tighten the mounting bolts, then back the pads off the rotor using the adjustment dials. The BB7 Road S Disc Brake comes with either a 140mm or 160mm HS1 rotor, and appropriate hardware for post or IS standard mounting. The included pads are organic for quiet operation.
