For skiers that don't need two feet of pow to have a good time, the Black Crows Captis Ski makes the most of any condition with a super versatile midfat waist and playful rocker profile that will smear turns and scrub speed, but still rail an aggressive turn down groomed runs and hardpack when you need it to. A relative newcomer to the freeski scene, Black Crows is a small and independent ski company headquartered in Chamonix where it uses the mind bending steeps and inspiring mountains that surround its hometown to inspire its designs. And while the Captis boasts a design that thrives within the confines of the resort, the Captis' 90mm waist width will excel both on and off piste, so you can expand your playground across the entire mountain.Admittedly, there's nothing revolutionary about a rockered ski with a midfat waist, but the way the Captis is built does make it a well rounded option playful freeskiers and aggressive all mountain rippers will appreciate. For starters, the Captis has an approachable flex that intermediates and advanced skiers will find easy to handle and surprisingly stable at speed. The tight 17 meter sidecut keeps the ski highly maneuverable in narrow chutes and tight trees, while a happy medium of moderate camber underfoot and rocker in the tips and tails helps keep things stable when you point 'em straight down wide open aprons and steep groomers. The semi cap construction helps keep the swing weight low, but still utilizes ABS sidewalls for the durability and stability necessary to charge down the entire mountain with confidence. The 90mm waist tracks easily from edge to edge, but won't leave you feeling outmatched when you encounter chopped crud, boot top pow, or smooth corn once things start to warm up come spring.
