The medium sized platform and slim profile of Crank Brothers' 5050 2 Pedals recommend them a versatile mix of riding that involves a little XC, a little trail, and a smattering of big terrain. The key differences between it and the more expensive 5050 3 model are bushings instead of needle bearings on the inner side and a more heavily machined pedal body. This results in slightly more friction and about 19g of claimed weight, but the 5050 2 still has the same venerable platform shape, 10mm adjustable traction pins, and forged spindle. Also, like the 3 pedal, the outer cartridge bearing rides on an scm435 chromoly spindle for excellent strength when riding either DH or freeride. The durable and stiff aluminum plates are replaceable if they get banged up, or if pins are ripped out after one too many altercations with rocks.
