We're guessing you're well aware of FOX's prolific reputation in the suspension market, especially seeing many of the main players in the mountain bike world source Float 34 Forks on their mountain bikes. Taking this dominance into consideration, we're pleasantly surprised to see the 2018 iteration of the FOX 34 Float 29 140 3Pos Adj FIT4 Fork 51mm Rake with reworked internals for an even smoother ride across trail inconsistencies and small obstacles. In fact, the engineers at FOX gave the 34 Float a new damper tune with a reconfigured shim stack that increases its small bump sensitivity. Following suit, FOX revised the Float air spring with EVOL technology from their rear shocks. This makes it even more supple and smooth, as less force is required to initiate its travel. The 34 Float matches the balanced feel of your 29er trail bike with its 34 millimeter stanchions. 34 millimeter stanchions are lighter than burlier offerings of the 36 Float, yet they retain a high level of stiffness for precise tracking across rough terrain. This means you'll have a reliable, smooth fork that's composed across technical terrain, but without holding you back on steep climbs and long rides through the backcountry. This particular 34 Float is the top shelf Factory version with Kashima coated stanchions for greater sensitivity to small bumps, as well as a 51 millimeter rake that gives your 29er nimbler handling at slow speeds. It's equipped with a Fit4 damper with 3 position adjust, which gives you the ability to change between Open, Medium, and Firm settings on the fly. Something to note, the reconfigured design makes it easier to add or remove volume spacers, so you can fine tune its progressiveness without taking up precious time messing with seals. And for instances when you need a practical lock out, the Firm mode is great for long fire roads and asphalt road approaches to the trail head.
