With a carbon and Kevlar blend, the shell of Fizik's Aliante R5 Saddle is built with an eye toward keeping the claimed weight at a respectable 245g without pricing the self sponsored cyclist out of the market. The Twinflex construction uses a stiff outline for support, with a more forgiving interior to provide cushion for your perineum so the weight savings don't come at the cost of undo suffering on rides over 25 miles. In Fizik's Linnaean estimation of cyclists as animals, the Aliante is for bulls. Bulls are less flexible and rotate their pelvises forward when they ride, an adjustment that requires a saddle with a larger, deeper pocket but, truth be told, we know many cyclists who can touch their foreheads to their knees while stretching but still prefer the Aliante. Regardless of flexibility, we haven't met many cyclists who don't instantly love Fizik's durable and attractive microtex cover, which allows for free movement in the saddle while keeping you firmly planted during hard efforts. The saddle rests on Fizik's exclusive Kium rails, which have high fatigue and corrosion resistances while reducing the overall weight by around eight percent compared to standard alloys.
