You probably put the pieces together and guessed that Hincapie Sportswear's PowerCore Merino Base Layer has been constructed from New Zealand Merino wool. However, what probably didn't know is that Merino wool is water repellant, antimicrobial, and one of the most comfortable things that you can put on your body. Merino wool is what's called a hydrophilic fiber, meaning that it has the natural ability to positively interact with water. In fact, Merino is able to absorb as much as 30 percent of its weight before exuding the sensation of wetness. Additionally, it's naturally antimicrobial, so you'll experience next to no stink from the base layer. This property is furthered by Merino's natural ability to disperse electrostatic charges. In other words, this base layer will pick up less dirt, grime, and lint in the first place. Hincapie also blends the wool with polypropylene and nylon, which are both hydrophobic polymers, in order to increase dry time. Additionally, this addition further increases comfort, stretch, and durability. The cut is fitted to the body with gusseted side panels for a contoured fit that easily layers under jerseys and jackets. And to eliminate the threat of chafing, while also creating a closer fit next to the skin, flatlock seams have been used throughout the construction. The Hincapie Sportswear PowerCore Merino Base Layer is available in the color Black and in six sizes from X Small to XX Large.
