New not only in name but in function, Michelin's Power Endurance Clincher Tire line replaces its Pro4 tire line for 2016 and boldly promises quantifiable improvements in rolling resistance, puncture protection, grip, and overall longevity. The line comprises four tires, including the Competition, Endurance, All Season, and Protection Plus, with each offering a slightly different blend of features suited to different riding situations. As its name suggests, the Endurance Clincher Tire addresses longevity and puncture protection the most, relying on Michelin's brand new X Miles rubber compound to stand up to less than ideal road conditions so that you don't have to wince and prepare for the worst every time you ride along a shoulder shimmering with unavoidable shards of glass. According to Michelin, the difference measures a 20% improvement, which is further complemented by an all new tread design for this year known as Grip Design. Though the goal with the Endurance was improved durability, Michelin didn't want it to come at the expense of grip and speed, so the new tread profile aims to provide confidence inspiring grip around the corners and along winding descents. The Endurance manages to strike a valuable balance for cyclists who spend their time riding in variable road conditions but for whom speed is still an important factor, offering a faster ride than the Protection Plus and All Season Tires, but a longer lasting, more dependable one than the Competition.
