With SRAM's determined push to send front derailleurs the way of the dodo, it was only a matter of time until the limited gearing of 11 speed became old news. Swooping in to set the curve on one by gearing options, the SRAM XX1 Eagle 12 Speed BB30 Direct Mount Crankset drives forward with updated designs and a flash of golden bling. Building on the original X Sync chainring's renowned chain retention ability, Eagle's X Sync 2 chainring ups the ante with claims of even better chain control. As with the original, each tooth is CNC machined to support the chain's inner and outer links and provide a variable thickness from tooth to tooth, so the chain and chainring essentially lock together as you pedal. Where each tooth took on a boxy profile in the original version, Eagle's chainring boasts aggressively profiled teeth reminiscent of those found in the ocean's fiercest predator, a design that grabs the chain when it needs to and fends of mud for smooth, friction free function. SRAM utilizes its Carbon Tuned technology to build the XX1 Eagle arms with a carbon layup that reduces weight while increasing stiffness and durability. Their hollow construction results in a light, responsive platform that lets you dance on the pedals and power down the trail. The direct mount chainring interface also affords the option of quickly subbing different sizes of rings for different shapes of terrain, giving the true all mountain racer a bit of start line flexibility to adapt to a given course.
