The redesign of the Shimano 9000 series calipers gives you better control in the palms of your hands than previous iterations. Rather than relying on the old standard single pivot point where the movement of the caliper came from the mounting bolt, the 9000 series uses a dual pivot. This design centers the brake arms over the wheel which, in turn, creates equal tension on both arms when the cable is pulled. This is done through a rolling cam that operates separately from the mounting bolt. The dual pivot design places the pads closer to the rims, which increases modulation. In addition, a twin bearing system within the 9000 reduces friction making your braking predictable.
