Smith Route Helmet

Smith's gradual migration into the world of cycling helmets has been an exciting one to watch, as the brand's innovative designs represent a new approach to safety that stands on its own next to tried and true classics. Inspired by Smith's Overtake, the all new Route Helmet comes with a more palatable price tag and an airier design. Rather than focus exclusively on racers, Smith targeted the Route at commuters and everyday cyclists. That means using less of its Koroyd material and more EPS foam in a design that meets the breathability and ventilation standards of its Aerocore design ethos without sacrificing safety. Koroyd itself has evoked all manner of comparisons our favorite being honeycomb but its safety benefits aren't a gimmick according to Smith, the material compresses upon impact to offer better protection than the standard EPSpolycarbonate In Mold construction that's been ubiquitous across the helmet industry for years now. Smith still uses EPS in the shell, meaning you'll still get the protection of the traditional EPS foam in the event of an impact, but the Aerocore construction further boosts its protective properties. A wealth of 18 vents strategically carved into the helmet feed air through its AirEvac ventilation system to help you shed heat through your head. Smith also includes its one handed VaporFit adjustment system which adjusts on the go via a quick spin of a dial and an assortment of breathable X Static pads made with a cooling synthetic liner help prevent sweat buildup and add cushion to your ride.
