Ground sheet offers extra protection to the floor of the tent against abrasion, puncture and dirt giving many more years to the waterproofness of your tent's fabric. Terra Nova groundsheet protectors are sized to fit exactly under the inner tent, and attach to the tent pole feet with shockcord loops to keep them in place.
