If you frequently find yourself riding on slick terrain, or just prefer a tire that prioritizes grip over fast rolling speed, you should check out the WTB Trail Boss TCS Tough HG 27. 5in Tire. With a tread that's blocky enough to dig into loose ground but smooth enough to roll without excessive drag, it's built to be handle any terrain you ride, but it uses a sticker rubber compound than other Trail Boss tires, so handling tough corners and off camber trails will be cake. In contrast to the the Fast Rolling FR versions of the Trail Boss, the HG High Grip model featured here covers a hard 60a rubber inner layer with a softer 45a sheath, which provides glue like grip while maintaining the Trail Boss's ability to take a hit. The Tough version of the Trail Boss also doubles up on protection with a rugged Enduro casing, making it more durable than the Light version. Even on off camber trails, the Trail Boss's staggered side knobs will keep you from sliding out, while the rounded center knobs will work the 45a rubber to keep you rolling confidently on slick and tricky terrain.
