Perusing various carbon fiber hoop offerings can quickly spiral into a vortex of sky high costs and withered hopes after checking your bank account. The Fulcrum Racing Quattro Carbon Clincher Wheelset is here to put an end to that spiral, delivering smooth carbon speed at a significantly lower cost than its similarly profiled counterparts. Fulcrum rims are actually Campagnolo tech in disguise, so the 3Diamant braking surface treatment used on the Racing Quattros is the same as that featured on Campy's legendary Bora line. These wheels address the common issues of poor carbon rim braking to provide powerful stopping in both wet and dry conditions when paired with Fulcrum's carbon specific brake pads. Fulcrum builds the Racing Quattro with 40mm carbon fiber rims just deep enough to slice effortlessly through the air and just shallow enough to snap up to speed and tackle climbs with ease. The depth also lets Campagnolo clandestinely plug the hole in their wheel line between the 35 and 50mm Bora models. Like their more expensive Italian cousins, the rims incorporate Dynamic Balance technology, which is a closely guarded method of laying the carbon opposite the stem valve hole to balance the rim's rotational weight. At the center, Fulcrum laces the Quattro Carbon rims to its silky smooth aluminum hubset. These hubs boast oversized aluminum flanges that serve to improve strength and rigidity for a snappy, responsive ride. A two to one spoke lacing pattern on the rear wheel utilizes seven spokes on the left side and 14 on the right to create an exceptionally strong wheel that resists flex under the load of hard gear changes or punchy accelerations. As an added bonus, external spoke nipples at the rim make for easy service and maintenance.
