The Fornix Backcountry MIPS Helmet is proof that, as usual, the good folks at POC are at the cutting edge of body armor technology. Of course the Fornix comes equipped with a top shelf adjustable ventilation system and a micro adjust system that provides a custom fit and feel. The Fornix is also equipped with aramid bridge reinforcements which, due to Aramid's extremely high tensile strength, disperse the force of impact across the entire shell of the helmet to soften the blow. But the real story here is the MIPS system, which might wind up saving your brain from some serious damage. Since most impacts to the head occur while you ragdoll down a slope, POC designed the Fornix helmet to protect against hard shocks as well as the brain jostling that happens during high speed crashes. Thanks to the award winning MIPS technology, your vital gray matter doesn't get jostled nearly as much as with standard helmets. This system employs a small plastic piece that breaks during harsh impacts and allows the outer shell of your helmet to slide over the inner liner when the helmet is struck at an angle. This rotational movement drastically reduces the rotational impact to your brain, thus keeping you safer when you suddenly take a slam while snowboarding or catch a ski tip at the top of a chute.
