Melissa from Pikes Peak Velo just sent an e-mail saying the Cheyenne Canon Time Trial tomorrow morning has been canceled. It snowed most of yesterday and off and on today. The snow has stopped now and the clouds have lifted some. The streets in town are just wet but there are a few inches of snow on bushes and grass in places. I’m sure there could be some icy areas up in the canyon early in the morning.
The word Melissa heard from Steve McCauley at USA Cycling is that the other 2 races are still on. The Colorado College criterium tomorrow is at low enough elevation that ice shouldn’t be a problem. The Air Force Academy road race on Sunday is at a little higher but by then the weather shouldn’t be a problem.

Hey Rob,
I did the crit earlier today. It was PERFECT weather for it! Amazing how nice it can get so quickly after a snowstorm. I ended up DNF’ing after a few laps though. There was a LOT of loose gravel on the downhill and around the corner at the bottom, and I got too cautious there on the first lap, slowing down way too much and taking the corner too wide (I took a hard crash up here in Crystal Park last month because of loose gravel, and I think maybe that still has my psyched out…). So I fell back off the pack early, and it was hell trying to catch up. The first couple of laps I managed to go hard enough to at least not lose any more ground on them, but after that I couldn’t keep it up anymore and started drifing back slightly. Knowing they’d eventually lap me and I’d get pulled anyway, and knowing I plan to do the road race tomorrow at AFA, I decided to just drop and save my energy. Truth be told, I’m not even remotely fit enough to be racing yet, but it’s hard to pass up races right here in our backyard. Plus, I’m hoping these public humiliations might motivate me to actually get my ass in gear to start training hard. 🙂
Fonk, good luck at the AFA tomorrow. I watched the 3/4 race today and part of the Pro/1/2/3 Men’s and Pro Women’s races. I took some pictures that I’ll get posted. I hung out on the climb pretty much the whole time. I raced at CC a couple times during college and at least one of them used the same course. That climb really hurts late in the race.
