Anybody that has lived in Colorado Springs any length of time should know that the Colorado Balloon Classic is held every Labor day weekend. This weekend was 32nd time the event has been held.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Memorial Park for the launch. We don’t want to get the kids up early plus we don’t like getting up either. Instead we have gone to the Balloon Glo in the evening.
The Balloon Glo is very cool with all of the balloons lit up in the dark. We drove to the Glo last evening but heard on the radio that it was canceled as we got to the park. At least we found out before we parked and walked.
The kids were really bummed to not see the balloons so we told them we’d get them early and go see the launch. It was a really nice morning although the launch was a little delayed because of winds. The winds were blowing so that the balloons would go toward the mountains instead of to the southeast where there are more places to land.
When the balloons did take off some of the first ones did go west and then as the wind shifted they almost came back. It made for some good views with the balloons close to the mountains. Getting up early on a holiday morning was worth it.
